Also Andreevskiy Spusk is one of the most beautiful streets of Kiev.

From the ancient times, in the times of Kievan Rus it was the shortest way that connected Old Kiev (Upper city), where were situated Golden Gates and St. Sofia Cathedral with Podol (Lower city), where was city port and craft and trade wards.

By the legend Andreevskiy spusk took its name after St. Andrew Pervozvanniy. The story tells that in former times there was the sea were now Dnieper flows, but when St. Andrew came and placed a cross on the top of the hill the water had hidden. Nowadays Andreevskaya church is standing on this place.

In 1711 by the order of Kiev governor-general the passage between Zamkovaya and Andreevskaya hills had been widen, thus it became suitable not only for pedestrians and horsemen, but also for carriages and wagons.

Contemporary buildings of Andreevskiy Spusk were mostly constructed in the end of XIX and beginning of ХХ centuries. Here lived and worked many famous scientists, writers, composers, artists and sculptors.

Nowadays Andreevskiy spusk is called Kiev Monmartr — there are a lot of picture-galleries along the street and painters, musicians, artists are coming here almost every day. Here you can buy Ukrainian souvenirs — embroidered clothes, painted plates and dishes. Every year during the Days of the City on Andreevskiy spusk the festival of national crafts is held.

On Andreevskiy Spusk is situated:

It is situated in house №13 were lived and worked author of famous novels "White Guards" and "The days of Turbiny".

On 8th of March on the Women's day I had been walkind on Andreevskiy Spusk with my girlfriend and we are visited "Koleso" theater (what is means "Whell" in English). I had bought tickets and we took a seat. Name of performance is "Pritvorno bol'noy" or "Pretending to patient". I agree with Milasha that "Koleso" is especial theater. Limited seating capacity and near distance between a spectators and artists creates unforgettable atmosphere   Cheesy

I hope you know about theaters except for a "Wheel" on Andreevskiy Spusk. There are two others ones:

- "Academia"

- "Teatr na Podole"

Certainly I know about these theaters, but they do not attract me and don't cause a desire to visit them. But probably I'll visit them in the future in order to compare  Smiley

hello ,

my ancestor lived in apartment 24 number 2  Andreevskiy Descent and i am very keen to know what end of the street this is to be able to identify the building in google earth or other web sites with photos .

It seems that 2b is now a private museum and also across the road from the cathedral is a building thta seems large enough to have 24 apartments.

Is that in fact number 2?

anyone able to help?

in anticipation
